It's Skin Dear My Muse Velvet Powder SPF 15 Review

With the autumn season finally among us, I decided to take some time the past few days going through my makeup items.  One of my go-to makeup items during the warmer months are powders, preferably loose powder. In the summer or warmer months, I tend to set my foundations or cushions with a light dusting of powder, focusing on my t-zone to control shine. In the summer, my skin type tends to be combination, especially in my t-zone so having a lightweight powder is ideal. At the beginning of summer, QDepot reached out and offered to send me an item for review purposes. Since I knew I would need a powder for the warmer days here in Portland, I picked out the Its Skin Dear My Muse Velvet Powder with SPF 15 #1 to test out.  As many of you know if you read my blog or follow me on Instagram, I tend to gravitate toward powders that offer sunscreen protection. Although I never rely on the sun protection of powders on their own, they do help to offer further protection against the sun's damaging rays. I also love using SPF powders for a midday sunscreen touch up.

As always, when I begin to test a product, it goes through a very detailed patch testing period. I always patch test and I recommend patch testing to everyone. This is how I introduce new products to my easily irritated skin. Patch testing can look different for everyone but for me, I test products in stages. For this particular powder, I applied it to my more sensitive areas for a couple of days in a row. If no reaction occurs, I moved forward and begin applying the product to half of my face, working my way up to using the product on my entire face. This powder did not cause any skin related reactions however, this did bother my allergies because it contains a very strong fragrance.

Now that we have entered into the autumn season (my favorite time of year), my skin type is normal to combination, my t-zone can still get a little shiny and I usually have dryness in my cheeks. My skin can also be quite sensitive and temperamental. I usually have very acne prone however, with the incorporation of Curology, my skin has been less breakout prone. My review will reflect how this powder works for me and my skin type/skin condition and as always, your results may vary.

Packaging:
Can we take a moment to admire the beautiful packaging :) When this arrived I immediately feel in love with the purple shiny box and the round purple case with reflective gold writing. This powder comes in a 14g round container with a white puff for application. Once opened, this powder lasts 18 months.

Poor quality picture but I wanted to show off the beautiful packaging

Texture and Formula:
This is a very fine, loose powder in color #1 that offers an SPF of 15. This matches my very fair skin perfectly. For reference, I am a N3 in Mac Cosmetics. This blends effortlessly into the skin without looking calky. For those of you with dry skin or those who have dry patches, powders are more likely to extenuate dryness so exfoliation and hydration is vital prior to application. Lastly, this powder has a very strong, perfume like scent.

Results
While I love that this powder is very finely milled and that it matches my super pale skin, I just cannot use this....I have tried and tried but the fragrance is just too strong for me and it bothers my allergies. This does help to keep shine to a minimum and the soft, white puff makes application a breeze. This would be a great option for midday touch ups and to help protect the skin from damaging UV rays. I am very sad that the fragrance is just too much to handle because otherwise, I would have really enjoyed using this powder.

Overall:
Although the packaging is so adorable, the strong fragrance is something I just cannot get past. It would definitely be another story if the scent dissipated but the scent lingers and I find myself sneezing. I did not have any skin related reactions to this powder but I would not recommend this to those with sensitive skin because of the strong fragrance.

If any of you know a good AB powder that contains an spf and does not have a strong, lingering scent please let me know and comment below. Here are some other powders I found with SPF.
