Mega Wishtrend Review

Wow, it's been too long since my last blog post. I am so sorry guys! During the last few weeks, my son turned 17, I finished my grad classes plus we did a little more house remodeling. I've been also having some health issues. Also, I have been focusing more on my Instagram these days because I love interacting with people through comments and DM's. If you are not following me on Instagram, you can find my feed here.

Back to the post! Today I will be reviewing products from Wishtrend. This post is long overdue but I have posted mini first impressions on my Instagram. This post will be a more in-depth reviews so it will be a long one! Here we go...

About Wishtrend
Wishtrend was one of the first retailers to offer kbeauty products for those of us in the US. Back in my Youtube days, I had to purchase products overseas and have items shipped which would take several weeks. Wishtrend is a company whose mission is to explore, select, create, enjoy and share the best quality products at reasonable prices. Today Wishtrend has grown, having thousands of customers around the globe. And yes, they ship worldwide.
I always like to start my reviews by stating my skin type and conditions at the time of the review. If you follow me on Instagram, you will know that my skin can get sensitive and more recently, I developed perioral dermatitis. That is (knock on wood) under control and now I am back to using my tretinoin like Differin, seen here. While my skin seems to be less prone to breakouts, it's more easily dehydrated and flaky. As we are creeping into the warmer months, my skin is more normal to combination. My review will reflect how these products work for my personal skin type and condition and as a disclaimer, your results may vary.

Patch Testing:
Every product I use goes through a very detailed patch testing period. I always patch test and I recommend patch testing to everyone. There is an argument out there that patch testing doesn't actually work seen here on The Beauty Brains. Although this theory exists, patch testing has saved my skin from some pretty serious negative reactions. Although I do agree with TBB (and love this podcast btw) that patch testing can not evaluate whether a certain product will cause breakouts,  patch testing will help determine if your skin is allergic to the ingredients and/or the formulation. This type of negative reaction is seen in the form of itching, stinging, intense flushing, burning, rash or hives.

I introduce new skin care products to my easily irritated skin by patching testing. Patch testing can look different for everyone but for me, I test products in stages. First, I applied the a product to my more sensitive areas like around my neck, chest and behind/in front of my ears. I would apply a product twice within a 24 hour period. If all goes well, I begin to use the product on half of my face and then work up to applying the product all over. I hope that makes sense.

First up is the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask. This mask claims to brighten, firm, hydrate, protect the skin from sunlight, prevent skin damage and help boost skin regeneration.

Packaging & Price: 90ml/3.04 fl oz plastic jar $27.00 here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carrageenan, Gellan Gum, Betaine, Algin, Mannan, Ceramide NP, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Chlorphenesin, Arginine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Centella Asiatica Extract, Rubus Fruticosus (Blackberry) Fruit Extract, Salicornia Herbacea Extract, Phragmites Communis Extract, Adenosine, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil

Thoughts on Ingredients:
Vitamin E stands out and is often an ingredient that people might overlook. This potent antioxidant works to block free radicals which helps to reduce wrinkles. While basic, this antioxidant helps to keep the skin looking youthful and gives the skin nutrients. This also contains niacinamide aka Vitamin B3 which helps to tackle dull & uneven skin tone. It can also help improve the look of enlarged pores while reducing environmental damage. Niacinamide has the power to also shield the skin from moisture loss and helps to boost hydration. It's a very versatile ingredient that can have a huge impact on the skin. This also contains my favorite ingredient, centella asiatica, which, like niacinamide, has multiple functions. Centella is amazing for all skin types, but especially those with sensitive skin. It is a well known herb that can treat skin damage, improving the circulatory system which speeds up healing. It is often used to treat scars and preventing or reducing stretch marks. This extract is also known for promoting collagen production, helps strengthen skin (ceramide NP & adenosine also help protect & strengthen the lipid barrier) and increase elasticity. It's also an anti-inflammatory, helping to calm and soothe.

Overall thoughts:
This is a gel to cream mask that has the consistency of pudding. It does melt into the skin and absorbs but it's very easy to use too much! This is very concentrated and if you use too much, it will leave the skin feeling tacky. Klairs states that this mask is most effective when used in combination with vitamin C. The vitamin E helps prevent vitamin C from being oxidized before it's fully absorbed into the skin. They claim that this will help improve the effects of vitamin C. Since my dermatitis has been greatly reduced, I am back to using vitamin C again so I will have to use this in conjunction and revisit this claims. This mask did hydrate, soften and makes my skin super smooth. My skin was plump and this definitely helped my skin retain moisture throughout the day. You can use this as a sleeping mask, a moisturizing cream or you can add it into your serums, essences or ampoules. The best effect I saw using this is the brightening effect! This makes my skin look more even toned and bright. I would repurchase.

Next is the Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water. Mandelic acid has quickly become my favorite AHA because it blends the power of both AHA and BHA into one. Derived from bitter almonds, mandelic acid is oil soluble. This means it has the capability of penetrating into pores just like BHA (salicylic acid), helping to dislodge debris and unclog pores. I have really noticed a difference when used consistently, especially around my nose where I get those annoying sebaceous filaments. Mandelic acid is also antibacterial so it can help treat acne because it not only kills bacteria, it's anti-inflammatory. Mandelic acid is also water soluble like other AHA's (glycolic/lactic) and can increase cell turn over, brighten and revitalize damaged skin (hyperpigmentation/dark spots/post acne scars). The best thing about mandelic acid is that it's less irritating then all other acids, making it perfect for those like me with sensitive skin, even those with rosacea. I have found that mandelic acid actually works better on my skin than any other acid in terms of efficacy without causing those pesky side effects.

Packaging and Price: 120ml/4 fl oz plastic bottle $22 here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Mandelic Acid, Butylene Glycol, Beta-Glucan, Panthenol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Centella Asiatica Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Sorbitol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Chlorphenesin, Sodium Citrate, Arginine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Natto Gum, Carbomer

Thoughts on Ingredients:
Derived from bitter almonds, this form of mandelic acid is very gentle because it only contains 5%. The pH is at a 4, making it a well-formulated acid that will exfoliate the skin, both surface and inside pores. This also contains beta glucan which is a soothing antioxidant, making it ideal for improving redness plus it's anti-inflammatory. There is also a research study that showed beta glucan's to have significantly reduced wrinkle depth after 8 weeks of use (Pillai, 2005). Another study done by the University of Alberta shows a significant improvement using beta glucan's for healing wounds and having a reduction of scarring following a surgical procedure (Redmond, 2005). This also contains  licorice (a potent antioxidant that is soothing and brightening), hyaluronate (helps bids/retains moisture), and again, my favorite ingredient centella asiatica.

Overall Thoughts:
I really like this product! It is gentle enough to use every day, although if you are new to using acids, I'd start a few days a week and work up. This makes my skin feel smoother, my pores are less congested when I am diligent about using this more frequently. My skin also looks brighter and I love fragrance free formula! Again, this is a very gentle acid so you won't see drastic results but I would repurchase again in a heartbeat.

Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner has been an award winner for the past 3 years and for good reasons! This toner is non-irritating and helps hydrate, moisturize plus soothe and calm.

Packaging & Price: 180ml/ 6 fl oz $21.99 here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Betaine, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Natto Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Disodium EDTA, Centella Asiatica Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Polyquaternium-51, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Carbomer, Panthenol, Arginine, Luffa Cylindrica Fruit/Leaf/Stem Extract, Beta-Glucan, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Copper Tripeptide-1

Thoughts on Ingredients:
This contains beta glucans (see above on Mandelic Acid review) but this contains lipidure-PMB which increases retention of hydration by 20%. This also contains centella, licorice, panthenol & arginine (both soothe, calm & skin conditioning) plus aloe extract. This does contain a copper tri-peptide that helps to decrease redness & promote collagen production. This formula does contain plant oils like lavender, orange, lemon, and eucalyptus so for those who are sensitive to these plant oils, I'd suggest using the fragrance free verison.

Overall Thoughts:
This contains various plant extracts that help to calm and hydrate plus this will help the skin retain moisture. My skin feels very balanced, hydrated, plump plus it helps soothe and calm my often sensitive skin. Klairs does offer a fragrance-free version that has almost identical ingredients. I haven't tried it but I want to. However, I do love this toner because of the hydration and moisture it provides and I personally love the scent. I would be interested in testing the fragrance-free version and compare the two formulas.

Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream claims to be a soothing & calming cream that helps calm and strengthen the skins' barrier. This cream is stated to be great for those concerned with skin irritation.

Packaging and Price: 30ml/1 fl oz $24.50 here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Sodium Hyaluronate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Centella Asiatica Extract, Sorbitan Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearic Acid, Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Ceramide NP, Polysorbate 60, Bees Wax, Chlorphenesin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Morus Alba Root Extract, Triethanolamine, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Guaiazulene, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Lecithin, Acetyl Glutamine, sh-Oligopeptide-1, sh-Oligopeptide-2, sh-Polypeptide-1, sh-Polypeptide-9, sh-Polypeptide-11, Bacillus/Soybean/Folic Acid Ferment Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol

Thoughts on Ingredients:
The main herbal ingredient is guaiazulence which is extracted from chamomile. It has a natural, dark purple color and is considered an anti-inflammatory plus it helps repair damaged skin tissue and speeds up cell regeneration. This also has centella which also helps regenerate damaged skin plus it helps prevent scarring. This also contains an array of peptides that send signals to the skin to produce new skin cells and promotes collagen production. This does contain a few soothing and calming plant extracts and hydrating oils like argan & jojoba.

Overall Thoughts:
Let me start by stating that this is not a moisturizer, it's a treatment cream. This cream is great after extractions, any intensive skin care treatments like a peel or IPL. It's also great for post-shaving or after sun exposure. This is a very concentrated cream so you only need a thin layer in order for this product to be effective. While I do like this treatment cream, I often find myself not reaching for it. I have mostly used this as a night sleeping mask and it works well at retaining moisture, decreasing redness and calming. I am not sure if I'd repurchase just because I don't reach for it very often.

Here is my review of the TECA 1% Barrier Cream. This claims to help strengthen, calm and improve the skin's overall health. It helps create a protective layer to keep the skin moisturized. It claims to help regenerate damaged skin, prevents acne scars and lightens areas of pigmentation.

Packaging & Price: 30ml? 1.05 fl oz $27.50 here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethyl Hexanediol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA

Thoughts on Ingredients:

Like the Klairs cream above, this too is a treatment product. This contains centella asiatica (asiaticoside, asiactic acid and madecassic acid) which help promote collagen production, improve skin density, calm, soothe and strengthen the skins' barrier. This does contain a fatty alcohol to help hydrate.

Overall Thoughts:
Just like the Klairs cream above, this is a treatment product that I often forget to use. You are supposed to use this as your last step in your skincare routine and apply to problematic areas. I do find that when I remember to use this, my skin sensitivity is great decreased and my skin is less red. I have not used this consistently enough to gauge whether this would help lighten my acne scars but it does offer moisture and soothing properties. Again, I am not sure if I'd repurchase.

Another product from Klairs is the Mid-day Blue Sun Lotion SPF40/PA++. This claims to provide sun protection and heat protection, soothe damaged skin and moisturize.

Packaging & Price:  50ml/ 1.7 fl oz  here

Full Ingredients:

Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide, Glycerin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Niacinamide, Polysorbate 60, Zinc Oxide, Isoamyl p-Methoxycinnamate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Cetyl PEG/PPG-10/1 Dimethicone, Chlorphenesin, Xanthan Gum, Arginine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Panthenol, Betaine, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Lactobacillus Ferment, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil,  Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Adenosine, Disodium EDTA, Guaiazulene, Centella Asiatica Extract, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8

Thoughts on Ingredients:
Like the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream reviewed above, this contains guaiazulene, an anti-inflammatory that helps repair damaged skin tissue and speeds up cell regeneration. This also contains niacinamide (anti-aging), hyaluronate, panthenol, lactobacillus ferment (probiotic) and ginseng extract which is a medicinal herb that has been used for centuries in Asian cultures. Ginseng is packed full of mineral, vitamins and antioxidants that provide so much nutrients to the skin. Ginseng is also very anti-aging because it helps stimulate collagen production which helps increase skins' elasticity. Ginseng can also help fade dark spots and brighten the skin.

Overall Thoughts:
Klairs did end up reformulating this SPF because of the consistency. I have not tried the new formula but I have read that it is more creamy, doesn't separate or feel chunky. This also leaves a white/blueish sheen to the skin which many people don't like. On my super pale skin it works just fine but on darker tones, I'd suggest first trying a sample. If you have pale skin with redness, you would love this because it helps instantly reduce redness because of the guaiazulene. I'd really love try the newer formula because I wouldn't repurchase this older formula because it was too chunky and separated easily. If any of you have tried the newer formula, please let me know if the consistency has changed.

Lastly is the By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash.

Packaging & Price:  70g/2.47 fl oz $22.00 here

Full Ingredients:

Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Lysine HCL, Proline, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Acetyl Methionine, Theanine, Carica Papaya (Papaya) Fruit Extract, Sorbitol, Papain, Betaine, Cellulose Gum, Citric Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate

Thoughts on Ingredients:
This contains green tea powder with is a powerful antioxidant rich in vitamins A, C & E. This contains papain which acts like an enzyme, dissolving dead skin cells off the skins' surface. Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) is a gentle scrub agent which smooths the surface of the skin and helps deep clean pores. This also contains amino acids & hyaluronate to help encourage moisture retention.

Overall Thoughts:
I love the matcha scent and the super convenient, travel-friendly powder cleanser. A little goes a long way, you just need to add a little lukewarm water that produces a light and airy foam. For sensitive skin, By Wishtrend suggests only using this 2-3x per week and I would agree to this precaution. I love everything about this cleanser except for the high pH level. On my skin, I do find that it leaves my skin feeling tight and stripped. They also caution not to use this along with any retinol, vitamin C and AHA/BHA's. I use all of these on a weekly basis plus with having sensitive skin, I don't know where this cleanser would fit in. Therefore, I wouldn't repurchase.

Phew...that was a long post! I hope you have enjoyed this review and found it helpful. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave me a message below. Thanks for reading :)

  1. I noticed in your shelfie that you're using Differin, and I am, too. I've been very wary of using any acids while using Differin, but I'd love to add the benefits of acids to improve my skin texture. How do you handle using both Differin and the mandelic acid toner? Are you able to use both every day without issue?

    2. Yes, I can use both but my skin is too sensitive to use Differin everyday. I only use it 2x per week. The Mandelic Acid Toner can be used daily.
