Jini Beauty Box February 2016

I received a ton of questions a few days ago on Instagram after posting this picture of what was inside the first ever Jini Beauty Box. I thought I would write a post giving you all more information on this new beauty service.

Meet Jini Beauty. This a month beauty subscription service filled with Korean beauty products. What sets this service apart from the other beauty subscription services out there is that it is a custom fit box according to your skin type. You can chose your monthly box based on your skin type or skin care concerns. There are 4 skin types to chose from and the cost of this service is $24.95 per month. Each box comes with 1-2 full sized product and 3-5 deluxe samples. Since I have sensitive skin, I chose the Sensitive/Troubled Skin box option.

Portland Meetup and Shopping trip at Pretty and Cute

Wow! I am beyond excited to share with you all about the Portland Oregon AB meet up yesterday, February 20th 2016. We had an incredible turn out of both Portland and Seattle area ladies coming together to share our common love of Asian beauty. I am so blessed and thankful that I stumbled upon the Asian Beauty sub on Reddit. I have met some truly incredible people who share the same love for Asian beauty.

I was able to arranged for our group to have a special shopping trip at Pretty and Cute, a local Portland store (and online site) that specializes in Asian beauty products. I want to give a huge shout out to Pretty and Cute for their wonderful hospitality in helping to make this meet up a success.

Here is a recap of the day....

To start the day, we all met to have a little Korean BBQ lunch

We all had a bite to eat and did a sample swap/exchange and traded sheet masks. Here is all of us at the restaurant.

Mask Maven February Collection

It's that time in the month again when I open my mailbox and find a package inside waiting for me to rip open :) Beauteque is a website that offers a monthly subscription service, either for masks or a monthly beauty box. I signed up a few months back when they were offering a really huge discount for a yearly subscription. Here is what was included in the February pack.

The information card states that this month is a variety pack, my favorite! This month is geared toward giving the skin some love during the month of love. I am not a huge Valentine's Day fan but I am all about self-care, especially skincare!

Skin Care Update #4

I want to begin this post with a short summary regarding my skin care journey and my battle with acne. If you have followed my blog over the past year, you will be somewhat familiar about what has been going on skin care wise in my life. For those of you who might be reading my blog for the first time, I want to give you some background information so you are not completely lost!

(Skip if you know my story)
It all started around March of last year when I started to develop acne. I began to notice that my face was breaking out a lot more than normal. Sure, I was certainly acne prone and had issues with high levels of skin sensitivity so I honestly just managed the breakouts as they happened. In April is when I noticed that my skin was getting worse as I was having more surface breakouts but I also began to develop deep cystic acne. To be perfectly honest, I was mortified. Here I was, a licensed medical Esthetician who has been in the skin care industry 17 years and my skin was horrible. I had the knowledge about skin physiology and ingredients knowledge but for some reason or another, whatever I was doing for my skin was not working. By the month of June, I had had enough and I decided to go see my primary care! You can read about my story further here!

After some trial and error with antibiotics, I decided that I was going to start Spironolactone and try Curology. Since September, I have been documenting my skin care progress and posting every month or so as to how my skin is improving here and here. I have always been fairly acne prone but this was the first time in my life that I had this severe of breakouts, especially the deep cystic type. I had to re-learn and approach my skin care very differently. I think in combination with the oral medication spironolactone, birth control, and incorporating Curology, my skin finally began to turn the corner in December.

Seattle Meetup

Over this past weekend, I attend the Reddit Asian beauty meet up in Seattle! I had attended the December meet up here and had a lot of fun. I knew I couldn't miss the chance to hang out with my fellow AB obsessed ladies again so I made the trip up to Seattle.

We decided to meet at the Uwajimaya in the International District of Seattle on Saturday. We had a big turn out as eleven of us showed up (only 10 pictured above, Morgan missed the group photo) and we had dim sum and got to chat. We also hit up the Daiso store in the area plus did a sample swap/exchange and made decants of products for each other to try.

Sulwhasoo ShineClassic Powder Compact 2003

If you are familiar with Korean skin care then you are no stranger to the popular Sulwhasoo brand. This is a company founded on Korean herbal medicine practices and the Sang-Seng philosophy of balancing the inner energies of the skin. I am no stranger to this brand either as I have used many parts of the line several years ago. Sulwhasoo is the first science based Korean luxury medicinal skin care systems and I cannot lie that these products comes with a hefty price tag. There is no doubt that Sulwhasoo is a splurge. In the case of most Sulwhasoo products, I believe they are well worth the price.

While taking about skin care with any Korean beauty enthusiast, Sulwhasoo products usually come into the conversation! Sulwhasoo is an extremely popular kbeauty brand. Sulwhasoo like other Korean beauty brands release limited edition products once or twice a year. This post is going to on the first ever, limited edition powder compact case that was originally released in 2003. I had seen these limited edition cases before not only from Sulwhasoo but also from History of Whoo and even Estee Lauder. I had always admired their beauty but never thought to actually purchase one. However, I decided to take the plunge and I contacted the the Neiman Marcus store and ordered one.

I received the compact about three days later and have been in awe ever since! This compact is truly a beautiful piece of art! I decided to purchase the original, 2003 Lattice compact because it was the first ever Sulwhasoo compact case to ever be made. Out of the five total designs made between 2003 and 2010, this was my favorite. Just a side note, this particular compact was re-released in 2014 so that is why Neiman's still had a few left over. If you are wondering, this case originally retailed for $150 dollars but I got it at a steal of only $69.

LJH Leejiham Haul and HKC Plaza Review

Today's post is on a haul for Leejiham (LJH) products that I purchased recently from HKC Plaza. HKC Plaza is a website located in Singapore. I found out about this site through the Asian Beauty sub community on Reddit. I was first introduced to the LJH brand several years ago when I received a deluxe mini in a Memebox here!

About HKC Plaza:
As I stated above, I purchased these Leejiham products from HKC Plaza. When I first heard about this site on Reddit, I admit that I was not sure if the site was legit and reputable, selling genuine products. I decided to placed my first order with HKC Plaza a few months ago and posted this haul here on Instagram. I was happily surprised when my order arrived within a month and the products were indeed legit!!

HKC Plaza is company based out of Singapore and often offers some excellent discount codes. I decided to order again for more LJH products when I discovered that they were offering a 60% off coupon code! I honestly could not resist such a great offer. I would also like to mention that HKC Plaza offers free international shipping and free registered shipping! You can't beat that :)

January Beauteque Mask Maven

The January edition of the Mask Maven monthly subscription by Beauteque arrived in the mail last week. It came toward the end of the month which is something I find a bit strange! I am hoping that Beauteque will start sending these out more toward the middle part of the month for those not on a month to month basis. Speaking of January, I do hope you all had a great start to the new year!

I have been using a lot more sheet masks lately (one of my new year's resolutions) so I was excited to finally receive the January subscription. I have noticed the more I incorporate sheet masks into my skin care routine, the better my skin looks and feels. Glow Recipes recently had a Monday to Friday Mask challenge on Instagram and I noticed a huge difference in my skin after the five days were over. My skin was no longer dehydrated, was more even toned, bright and plump!
